My name is Mario, and I am the Taekwondo Trainer at Taekwondo4Fitness. My Taekwondo journey started when I was 16, and I kept practising even if life often got in my way.

My goal is to inspire and motivate the youth and adults to become more active, make healthier choices, and share the experience of shaping oneself into a better person every day. I became a trainer to help my students to achieve their health and fitness goals with martial arts.

Over the past 30 years, I trained in countries like Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom and had great mentors who taught me the various aspects of Taekwondo.

I hold a 4th-degree blackbelt with the Independent Taekwondo Organisation and a Kukkiwon black belt. As Chairman and Examination Director, I also have an examination license B to promote my students to higher grades in belt promotion exams.

I am a former Taekwondo Instructor and National Poomsae Referee with British Taekwondo, the largest governing body in the United Kingdom. I gained full Disclosure Checks clearance, which is crucial before working with children and vulnerable adults in the UK.

After training in England for nearly a decade, I moved back to Slovakia at the end of 2021 and joined the Slovak Taekwondo Association and the Košice Police Sports Club.

I have a Level 2 Leading Health-Related Activity accredited certification awarded by Active IQ, delivered by Fit for Sport, which provided me with the skills, knowledge, and competency to provide high-quality, inclusive activity sessions for children.

Besides this, I obtained an accredited qualification as a Healthy Active Lifestyle Programming Coach with Future Fit Training, the No. 1 provider of personal training, nutrition & pilates courses in the UK.

Continuing education and further training are crucial to me as it provides the knowledge and skills to work with clients with common health conditions that are increasingly common.

WHY ME?

All good martial artists and Taekwondo practitioners live by the code of ethics. They are expected to continuously maintain the Five Tenets of Taekwondo: etiquette, modesty, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. The five tenets guide a student’s behaviour – inside and outside the dojang. As a Taekwondo Instructor, it is my commitment to preserving these principles.

I am passionate about fitness, nutrition, and a healthy, active lifestyle. I work hard to achieve my health and fitness goals. Continued professional development (CPD) and further training are crucial for staying up-to-date with my knowledge and skill set.

My martial arts journey started in 1989 in Germany, the same year as the Berlin Wall’s fall. Since I was often bullied as a kid in and outside the school, I asked my parents to sign me up for martial arts classes. Unfortunately, I realized that Judo was not my best choice to defend myself. I only graduated with a yellow belt and stopped attending classes.

I grew up in Wedding, one of the working-class districts with a large proportion of foreigners and a lot of violence. Gangs were making the streets unsafe. Bullies used mainly knives, their fists, and their feet to cause harm to others. Regrettably, Judo didn’t give me the confidence to defend myself against these opponents with throws, wraps, traps, or such.

I immediately fell in love with Taekwondo after one of my schoolmates took me to his parent’s martial arts school in 1992. At this time, I was 16 years old, and I have been loyal to this sport ever since. Taekwondo helped me gain confidence and defend myself in case of no other way out.
